Comparing Temporary, Permanent, and Semi-Permanent Retail Displays

At d3, we specialize in providing custom retail displays to suit any business. Our products generally fall into three categories: temporary, permanent, and semi-permanent retail displays. Each option has its own distinct benefits, so to help you decide which is best for your needs, we’ll provide a brief comparative guide on the different varieties.

Comparing Temporary, Permanent, and Semi-Permanent Retail Displays

  • Temporary displays are typically designed to last no more than 2-3 months. Because of this, they are made of inexpensive materials such as cardboard, as durability isn’t as much of a concern as it is for permanent or semi-permanent retail displays. These displays can be freestanding, or they can be small enough to fit on permanent shelving units or counters.
  • Permanent displays are designed to last for at least 1-3 years, and sometimes even longer. As such, they are made of more durable materials, such as wood, acrylic, glass, or metal, and this makes them more expensive as well. However, if you need a way to display products in your regular rotation, permanent displays are a worthwhile investment.
  • Semi-Permanent. Lastly, semi-permanent retail displays split the difference between the other two varieties. They are designed to last from three months to a year, and are made of materials such as acrylic, styrene, wood, glass, and even more durable cardboards. They are generally placed in many of the same places that temporary displays are, such as end caps, but will obviously feature products on a more long-term basis.
