If you are considering which retail displays best meet your company’s needs, you may be choosing between temporary store displays and permanent displays. But, what’s the difference? How should you choose? Which option best suits your product, your needs and your budget? Here at d3, we specialize in designing custom store displays of all types, including temporary displays, semi-permanent displays and permanent displays.

How to Choose Between Temporary and Permanent Displays

Here are our recommendations about each type of display:

  • Temporary displays: These displays are often called point-of-purchase displays (or POP displays for short). They are intended to be used for a short period of time, perhaps for a seasonal product or as part of a new product launch or rebranding campaign. They are usually made from corrugated material (cardboard) and are designed to last 30 days to 90 days on the sales floor.
  • Semi-permanent displays: If you plan on using a display for 3 to 6 months, a semi-permanent display may be your best option. These displays are sturdier than temporary displays, but still easy to disassemble and dispose of when you don’t need them any longer.
  • Permanent displays: If you need a display that will be used in the long term, for a year or longer, this is the type of display you probably need. Permanent displays can be made from a variety of materials, depending on the product, brand message and retail environment. Materials may include metal, plastic, acrylic, styrene, wood, glass and more.

When deciding if permanent displays are what you need, you will want to balance your objectives and sales goals, as well as your budget. We can help you decide which type of display is best for your unique needs during your needs assessment and design a custom solution for your product.
